Manual Redaction
Manual redaction gives you precise control: draw a rectangle over any part of a page and it will be covered with a solid fill before export.
Drawing a Redaction
- Make sure the Redact mode is selected in the toolbar (not Remove Row).
- Click and drag on the PDF canvas to draw a rectangle around the content you want to hide.
- Release the mouse (or lift your finger on mobile) — the rectangle turns opaque, indicating it will be filled on export.
Repeat for every region you need to cover across any page.
Fill Colour
The default fill colour is Black. You can switch to White using the colour toggle in the toolbar — useful for documents that will be printed or viewed on white backgrounds.
Removing a Redaction
- Click a rectangle on the canvas to select it. A delete button appears — click it to remove.
- Undo with
Ctrl/Cmd + Z or the Undo button in the toolbar.
- Clear All removes every redaction on all pages.
Tips for Accurate Redactions
- Zoom in (use the zoom controls or pinch on mobile) before drawing for precise placement.
- Drag slightly beyond the text boundaries to ensure no characters peek out at the edges.
- Use Auto-Detection or Presets for common patterns to avoid manual drawing on every page.
Combining Methods
Manual redactions can be combined with Auto-Detection and Preset redactions. All sources are merged and applied together at export time.
